Recreation & Leisure – Dehumidification & Moisture Removal
Atmospheres in recreation and leisure facilities are usually warmer, frequently populated and have surface areas of water or ice that are at a greater risk of high humidity being present.
Public swimming pools, ice rinks, leisure centres, and health clubs fall into the category of recreation and leisure. At DEHUM, we have extensive experience dealing with the array of problems that uncontrolled humidity in these types of environments can cause, including:
- Fog
- Bad Ice
- Mould
- High energy costs
- Odours
- Structural degradation
In ice rinks, for example, the walls, ceilings and pipework are all cooled due to their proximity to a large ice surface. To prevent condensation from forming on these cold surfaces, the relative humidity needs to be controlled, and an extremely low dew point of between 4-60C is required to achieve this.
The custom-designed specialist equipment that we develop, install and service for recreation and leisure facilities can reduce these problems and create the perfect, comfortable and healthy indoor climate.
Creating the right environment can also reduce the energy used on site. DEHUM has worked hard to develop its equipment, and with the introduction of the new ranges, our equipment is the most energy-efficient on the market.
The benefits of the new systems have been seen in swimming pools, for example. Up to 80% of the running cost in this type of application is down to the air handling equipment, so improvements here can be very dramatic. Furthermore, the correct application of humidity control and air movement will improve the environment for users and reduce evaporation from the pool, again reducing energy on-site. Although we specialise in humidity control, understanding drying and air movement ensures a design that maximises the potential of dry air.
The growing demand for health clubs and gymnasia has meant an increase in application in this field. With Spin Classes, Zumba, Cross Training and TRX rooms, to name a few, the more intense the workout, the higher the moisture load. With rooms kept cooler to support training, the risk of condensation increases. Smooth surfaces with high activity increase the risk of slips and falls even more. A DEHUM solution will keep the area condensation free and surfaces safe.
