Commercial Dehumidifiers | Commercial Humidity Control Systems.

Commercial Humidity Control Systems.

Commercial dehumidifiers are essential for a wide variety of businesses, in just as many different industries. As a business owner, it’s your responsibility to ensure that your products, processes, and team, aren’t being negatively impacted by humidity, and are investing in commercial dehumidifiers that improve efficiency and guarantee safety.

Unchecked humidity can cause major damage to your equipment, or make your products unsafe, ruining your reputation and bringing your business to a halt. It isn’t just to prevent issues either; over the years our clients have seen major financial benefits by investing in our desiccant rotor systems. This could be a reduction in energy costs, or reduced system maintenance shutdowns – less downtime means more output, and we’ve reduced shutdown frequency from every 2 days to every 2 weeks in some cases.

With so many types of commercial dehumidifier on the market, it’s not easy to know which is best for you, even if you have identified the humidity related issues you’re facing. So let’s explore which commercial dehumidifiers are available, so you can make an informed decision.

What are Commercial Dehumidifiers?

Commercial dehumidifiers are a lot more powerful than the small models we’d use at home. They are more advanced machines designed to cover a larger area and/or reduce relative humidity (RH) to a specific level, which is a requirement in some applications such as cleanrooms.

They are similar to industrial dehumidifiers, and the technology and installation is often indistinguishable. The main difference is often the scale, as large factories and warehouses need the most powerful dehumidifiers, whereas commercial models can be smaller on average if the environment suits a model of that size.

How We Build Systems That Work First Time

Types of Commercial Dehumidifier.

There are two main types of commercial dehumidifier: desiccant and refrigerant. These have the same goal, reducing the RH of your application, but do it in different ways.

Overall, both these systems work well, but in our decades of research we’ve found that desiccant dehumidifier systems are noticeably more efficient and therefore are the only machines we provide. Heating a small area takes a lot less energy than cooling a full coil, and the lack of tank means the machines are more compact, taking up less space in your application.

But why are these systems necessary?

Refrigerant Dehumidifiers

A refrigerant dehumidifier uses a coil to trap moisture as humid air passes through the system. The coil is continuously cooled, so that it collects droplets of moisture, which are then deposited into a tank below. This tank can be emptied manually, often the case with smaller or temporary dehumidifiers, or it may do it automatically, which is the norm for all advanced models.

Desiccant humidifiers, on the other hand, use heat instead of refrigeration. The desiccant rotor slowly turns, collecting the moisture from the air using a desiccant material like sponge or, in our case, a silica gel. As it rotates, it passes through a ‘regeneration area’, where the surface is heated, so the moisture evaporates. This system prevents the rotor from becoming too saturated with moisture, and the system doesn’t rely on runoff. The water vapour produced is released outside of the application, so only clean, dry air is allowed to circulate.

Humidity Control in Commercial Spaces.

Any application, regardless of what your business does, will be affected by high humidity. This is because any material can be affected when the ‘dew point’ is reached, and moisture droplets form on said material when temperatures cool overnight.  Any of the issues listed below will completely derail your operation, regardless of what you do.

Many companies are aware of this and install dehumidification systems to combat high RH. But over time these systems can lose performance, meaning they can no longer keep up with demands, and the above issues can start to form without your knowledge. We design bespoke desiccant dehumidifiers but can also upgrade your existing systems if they’re starting to let you down.

Mould

Mould thrives in damp environments, and once it takes hold it can spread quickly across a wide variety of surfaces. In commercial spaces, this isn’t just a cosmetic issue. Mould can grow on walls, flooring, carpets, packaging materials, and even storage containers, compromising both hygiene and safety standards. In sectors like food and drink manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare, visible mould can lead to health hazards, regulatory breaches, and product recalls. Even in less sensitive industries, mould damage results in costly cleaning, redecoration, and potential stock losses. Once mould spores become airborne, they can also infiltrate HVAC systems, spreading throughout the facility and making the problem far harder and more expensive to eradicate.

Rust

Metal machinery and components are highly susceptible to corrosion when exposed to prolonged humidity. Rust not only affects the appearance of machinery but also its performance, leading to premature wear, unexpected faults, and safety concerns. In factories that rely on precise equipment – from automotive production to aerospace or electronics – corrosion can compromise accuracy and cause expensive downtime. Preventing rust with proper humidity control extends equipment lifespan, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures compliance with strict safety standards.

Rot

Wooden materials such as pallets, crates, and racking systems are widely used in warehousing, logistics, and packaging. However, in humid conditions, wood absorbs moisture and begins to break down. Rot weakens the structural integrity of pallets and containers, putting valuable stock at risk and increasing the chance of accidents in storage facilities. Over time, replacing degraded wood adds unnecessary costs, and damp conditions can even contaminate products, especially those stored in food or pharmaceutical supply chains.

Water Damage

Paper, cardboard, textiles, and other moisture-sensitive materials can be irreparably damaged when exposed to high humidity. In industries that depend on packaging, printed documents, or fabric storage, even a small amount of moisture can cause warping, staining, or weakening of fibres. For businesses handling archives, artwork, or legal documentation, water damage means permanent loss of irreplaceable items. In manufacturing, damp packaging not only ruins the appearance of goods but also impacts customer confidence and brand reputation.

Condensation

When warm, humid air comes into contact with cooler surfaces, condensation forms. In commercial settings this is particularly problematic during packaging processes. Moisture trapped inside sealed containers or shrink-wrapped products creates a breeding ground for mould, bacteria, and spoilage. This can lead to consumer health risks, product wastage, and recalls. In highly regulated industries like pharmaceuticals or food manufacturing, condensation is a critical compliance failure. Effective humidity control eliminates this risk, ensuring products remain fresh, safe, and within quality standards.

Electronic Faults

Electronics and moisture are a dangerous combination. In manufacturing environments where circuit boards, sensors, or batteries are assembled, high humidity can cause short circuits, component failures, or even fire hazards. This is especially critical in industries like lithium-ion battery production, where raw lithium reacts aggressively to water vapour, making humidity control essential for both safety and quality assurance. Even outside of production, office IT systems, warehouse automation equipment, and robotics can malfunction when condensation builds up inside sensitive circuits. The result is costly downtime, damaged stock, and potential safety incidents.

The Benefits of Commercial Dehumidifiers.

Commercial dehumidifiers aren’t just designed to solve problems; they also generate more revenue for your business. Reducing relative humidity has a direct impact on the quality of your products, improving your reputation, but it also reduces costs and allows you to maximise output. And we don’t just ask you to take our word for it.

Recently one of our clients approached us because they were having issues with humidity in their underground wine storage. As you can well imagine, their containers were at risk of damage, and their valuable contents could be ruined in the process.

The seven desiccant rotor systems we installed improved the RH immediately. In just the first 24 hours, they removed around 1400kg of moisture from the air, the equivalent of 200 bathtubs filled to the brim. This was a lot more than just reducing the risk of damp, this was a bespoke solution that removed all humidity from the application, giving the client peace of mind.

Increased ROI With Desiccant Humidity Control Systems.

One of the most common solutions we provide are desiccant dehumidifiers for spiral freezers. A major issue is when ice builds up in the refrigeration system, causing a blockage. The freezers need to be shut down so that the ice can be removed, a costly and time-consuming process that also takes up valuable space in other freezers.

In one case these shut downs were necessary every two days, causing a massive drain on the client’s output and making their energy bills sky-high.

With our system installed, ice formed far more slowly. Shutdowns are now needed every two weeks instead of every two days, a massive improvement that translated into over £4 million in additional revenue for the client.

Quality humidity control doesn’t just save you money, it makes you money. We deliver serious revenue gains with an incredibly short ROI.
